Oates Yinchao Wu is a Chinese but US based writer-director. He graduated from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) with an MFA in Film Directing. He is a US Extraordinary Artist Visa (O1) holder. His work focuses on sexual identity, gender and race. He is especially interested in topics like the impact of socio-cultural background, fantasy vs. reality, and the nature of desire, shame and fear. His works screened at festivals around the world, including Seattle International Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, Asian American International Film Festival, Outfest and more. He now works as a writer director for Stage 13 (Warner Brothers’ digital platform). In 2015 he was granted the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant. Additionally, Oates works as a programmer for various film festivals, including Slamdance Film Festival, FIRST International Film Festival (XiNing, China). Oates was also a panelist for Austin Film Festival 2016, and acted as a judge for CalArts student showcase 2017.
